Pae ʻAkahikahi – Volunteer

Kimo is described as the playing piece of konane.  This role reflects people who are looking to be a part of the game/movement/project.  Yet they  do not hold another kuleana with KPK other than supporting the vision.  Kimo are free to come and go as they please.

Pae ʻAlua – Niho/Base level

Paakea is described as limestone.  This role reflects people who are willing to make a commitment to the consistent practice of uhauhumu pohaku and want to become a KPK member.  A pa’akea provides support for KPK and the higher ranking practitioners.  The goal is to help elevate themselves to feel confident in the practice of Uhauhumu Pohaku.  Must attend 50% of KPK workdays and events.

Requirements to be considered for Pa’akea

1. 500 hours of volunteer work with KPK focusing on uhauhumu pohaku.
2. Must have 3 recommendations by Humu ula or Pāʻalā

Pae ʻAkolu – Pani Hakahaka /Intermediate Level

Paala is described as one of the hardest stones found in Hawaii.  This role recognizes that the individuals have completed the basics levels of uhauhumu pohaku and are now confident in their skills to take on greater tasks and have the ability to teach the basics of Uhauhumu pohaku.  Not only that they can lead Pa’akea, large groups and volunteer days start to finish.  Must attend 75% of KPK workdays and events.

Requirements for Pāʻalā 

1. 3,500 hours of uhauhumu pohaku experience.
2. Pass Uhauhumu pohaku written hoike. (Humu ula to facilitate).
3. Pass ahu hoike. (Humu ula to facilitate).
4. Memorized all oli for uhauhumu pohaku oral and written. (Humu ula to facilitate).
5. Uhauhumu pohaku protocol hoike (Humu ula to facilitate).

Pae ʻAhā – Paepae ke Alo/Proficient  Level

Humu ula is described  as individuals that have elevated to an advanced level that impacts major change in uhauhumu pohaku for our kaiaulu.  These individuals are recognized as senior leaders for KPK.  In addition to leadership recognition the Humu ula have greater access to KPK resources and help to manage these resources.  They have the ability to not only lead workdays but uphold the cultural and spiritual side of Uhauhumu pohaku.

Requirements for Humu Ula

1. 7,000 hours of uhauhumu pohaku.
2. Lead 3 volunteer days start to finish.
3. Kapu kai hoike & Awa hoike (Kia’i to Facilitate).
4. Haku 1 oli for uhauhumu pohaku (Kia’i to facilitate).
5. Fluent in Hawaiian (Kia’i to facilitate).

Pae Loea – Pohaku ka Papale/Master Level

Requirements for Haku lana 

1. 10,000 hours of Uhauhumu pohaku. 
2. Po’o for restoration project (start to finish).
3. Recruit and build one lima (5 individuals).
4. Kaiaulu

6. Must be recognized by Uncle Fred and practitioners Uncle Fred deems appropriate to become a Haku Lana
